Understanding Your Knee Anatomy
To understand the benefits of the restor3d personalized approach, it’s important to understand the anatomy of your knee. Your knee is a hinge joint that allows you to walk, climb stairs, and bend with ease. It’s made up of several important structures:
- Bones: The femur (thighbone), tibia (shinbone), and patella (kneecap) form the joint.
- Cartilage: Smooth tissue that cushions bone and allows them to glide.
- Ligaments & Tendons: Strong bands of tissue that stabilize and move your knee.
- Muscles: Provide power and support for everyday movement.
The knee joint is divided into three compartments:
- Medial (inside) compartment
- Lateral (outside) compartment
- Patellofemoral compartment
When cartilage wears down in one or more of these compartments, it can lead to osteoarthritis (OA) — a degenerative joint disease that causes pain, stiffness, and swelling. OA may affect one, two, or all three compartments of the knee, which helps determine whether a partial knee replacement or a total knee replacement is right for you.
What is Total Knee Replacement?
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease where the protective cartilage in your knee gradually breaks down. As the cartilage wears away, the bones begin to rub against each other, causing pain, stiffness, and reduced mobility.
OA can affect the entire knee joint or just certain parts of it:
- Partial Knee Replacement (PKR): An option for patients whose OA is limited to one or two compartments of the knee.
- Total Knee Replacement (TKR):Recommended for patients with OA in all three compartments of the knee.
During a total knee replacement, the damaged surfaces of your knee joint are replaced with smooth, durable components designed to:
- Relieve pain
- Improve mobility
- Restore function so you can return to your normal activities
Meet the restor3d Total Knee Solution

The First Knee Replacement That Fits Only One Knee. YOURS.
Not all knee replacements are the same. Many use “off-the-shelf” implants that come in a few standard sizes. At restor3d, we do things differently:
Personalized Fit
restor3d implants are specifically designed to fit your knee, avoiding sizing and positioning compromises common with off-the-shelf implants that can lead to long-term painful outcomes. Our implants are also designed for optimal bone preservation.
Personalized Shape
restor3d implants are designed to mimic the natural shape of your knee, which plays an important role in the way your knee bends and extends. By restoring the natural shape of your knee rather than replacing it with the standardized geometry of off-the-shelf implants, your knee may feel more like your natural knee.
Maintaining Joint Lines
Many patients complain that their knee feels wobbly after knee replacement surgery. This feeling is formally known as mid-flexion instability. Off-the-shelf knee implants aren’t designed to match the natural offset joint line that most patients have. Instead, they flatten the offset to the same height, which can lead to midflexion instability. restor3d implants maintain the patient’s medial and lateral joint lines, which allows for a more stable knee after surgery.
No two knees are the same. iTotal Identity is designed to fit yours—preserving bone, restoring natural shape, and helping you move with confidence.
OUR PROCESS
The restor3d Process
At restor3d, we believe that the best outcomes start with a personalized approach. Scheduling a CT Scan
Your doctor will give you a prescription for a diagnostic CT scan. The CT scan will be sent to restor3d for intake.

Not every patient is a candidate for joint replacement surgery, and outcomes will vary. Joint implants are designed to relieve pain and improve mobility, but they may not replicate the exact feel or movement of a natural joint.
Every patient’s case is unique. Always follow your surgeon’s instructions and discuss whether joint replacement is the right treatment for you. As with any surgery, potential risks include loosening, wear, or infection, which may require additional procedures.
Talk to your doctor about your implant options, recovery expectations, and any questions about medications, nutrition, or other treatments to ensure you receive the care that’s right for your situation.
