Total Ankle Replacement
Reclaim Your Stride with Personalized Ankle Care
If ankle pain and stiffness are limiting your daily life, total ankle replacement may offer a long-term solution that restores motion and relieves discomfort. Unlike ankle fusion, this procedure preserves joint movement—helping you return to walking, standing, and staying active. At restor3d, we use imaging of your anatomy and advanced 3D printing to design personalized solutions that fit your anatomy and support natural, confident motion.

Understanding Ankle Anatomy
The ankle is a complex, free-moving joint made up of three bones:
- Tibia (shinbone)
- Fibula (outer lower leg bone)
- Talus (ankle bone that connects to the foot)
These bones form the foundation of the ankle and are covered in cartilage, a smooth layer that allows for pain-free movement.
Surrounding them are:
- Ligaments, which are strong bands of connective tissue that hold bones together and stabilize the joint
- Tendons, which connect muscles to bones and allow you to flex and move your foot
- Muscles, which generate movement and support balance
- Synovial fluid, which lubricates the joint to reduce friction
- Nerves, which send signals between your brain and foot to help with coordination and sensation
Full ankle function depends on the smooth coordination of all these elements. When one or more parts—especially cartilage or bone—are damaged by arthritis or injury, the result can be pain, stiffness, and instability.
This is when Total Ankle Replacement becomes a powerful option.
What Is Total Ankle Replacement?
Total Ankle Replacement (TAR), also called ankle arthroplasty, involves replacing the damaged parts of the ankle joint with metal and plastic components that mimic natural motion.
The goal?
- Reduce pain
- Restore movement
- Help you return to the activities you love
Meet the Kinos™ Total Ankle System

A solution designed to move like you do.
When conservative treatments like bracing, physical therapy, or injections no longer relieve ankle pain, total ankle replacement may offer a long-term solution that restores movement and improves your quality of life.
At restor3d, we’ve reimagined ankle replacement with the Kinos Total Ankle System—the first implant designed to mimic the natural motion of a healthy ankle in multiple directions, not just up and down. This means you can walk, pivot, and move more naturally after surgery.
Unlike traditional implants, Kinos approaches personalization in the surgical technique designed to your anatomy using advanced imaging and 3D printing. Your surgeon uses a custom surgical plan and tailored instruments designed specifically for your body—leading to greater precision, stability, and confidence in your recovery.

OUR PROCESS
The restor3d Process
At restor3d, we believe that the best outcomes start with a personalized approach. That’s why we use your medical imaging—like a CT scan—to design and 3D print an ankle implant that fits your unique anatomy. If you’re ready to find a surgeon offering personalized joint solutions near you, we can help!
Scheduling a CT Scan
Your doctor will give you a prescription for a diagnostic CT scan. The CT scan will be sent to restor3d for intake.
Recreating your Natural Anatomy
Using your CT Scan, a 3D model of your anatomy is developed and will be used to individualize your implant.
Manufacturing your Implant
restor3d manufactures all of our personalized implants and surgical instruments in the United States, with the majority 3D printed.
Preparing for Surgery
Your implant is delivered to the hospital a few days before your surgery.
Following Your Surgery
restor3d wants to hear from you. Tell us about your personalized implant journey.

Not every patient is a candidate for joint replacement surgery, and outcomes will vary. Joint implants are designed to relieve pain and improve mobility, but they may not replicate the exact feel or movement of a natural joint.
Every patient’s case is unique. Always follow your surgeon’s instructions and discuss whether joint replacement is the right treatment for you. As with any surgery, potential risks include loosening, wear, or infection, which may require additional procedures.
Talk to your doctor about your implant options, recovery expectations, and any questions about medications, nutrition, or other treatments to ensure you receive the care that’s right for your situation.
