About:
Dr. Kurtz is a board certified orthopedic surgeon in Nashville, Tn who specializes in the primary and revision joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee joints. He has received fellowship training specifically in hip and knee replacements. He is a member of Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance and is currently the Chief of Orthopedics at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, but also has priveleges at Centennial and St. Thomas.
Dr. Kurtz is a graduate of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas with Alpha Omega Alpha honors distinction. He then completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, followed by a subspecialty fellowship in adult reconstructive joint surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston. In addition, he holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Rice University.
Dr. Kurtz is the Chief of Orthopedics at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital and a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, the American Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons, the Society for Arthritic Joint Surgery, Mid-America Orthopedic Association, and the Vanderbilt Orthopedic Society. He has three patents regarding hip replacements and continues to design techniques to improve patient outcomes.
Dr. Kurtz is a native of Houston, Texas. He is married to Emily Graham Kurtz, a Tullahoma native, and the director of preventive cardiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. They are proud parents of three children and a dog. They have lived in Nashville since 2000 and attend Westminster Presbyterian Church.
