Jonathan Wright, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He also serves our country’s veterans as the Orthopaedic Surgery Section Chief for the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. He earned his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Brigham Young University, graduating magna cum laude, and received his medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine. He completed an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan, and a Shoulder and Elbow fellowship at the University of Florida.

Dr. Wright’s clinical practice focuses on the upper extremity, from the clavicle down to the elbow. He performs both arthroscopic and open surgeries including computer-navigated primary and revision shoulder replacements, primary and revision arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs, arthroscopic labral repairs and anatomic glenoid reconstructions, primary and revision elbow replacements, elbow arthroscopy, and elbow ligament reconstructions among many other procedures.

He has published multiple works in many of the top Orthopaedic Surgery journals including the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and The Bone & Joint Journal. He has received research funding from AOTrauma North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.

Dr. Wright has developed a passion for teaching throughout his career, currently serving as faculty for the University of Florida Orthopaedic Surgery residency, Hand and Upper Extremity Fellowship, and Shoulder and Elbow Fellowship and participating as a lecturer at the University of Florida School of Medicine.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and its associated journals and has served as a scientific reviewer for the Department of Defense – Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons.
