John Rawlings, MD

Specialty

Shoulder Surgery

After completing his undergraduate degree at Brigham Young University, Dr. Rawlings joined the Army to help pay for medical school at the University of Southern California. He was active duty during his five years of residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, and he then was stationed at Fort Stewart Georgia, where he served as a general orthopedic surgeon for four years. While there, he had the opportunity to serve as the chair of orthopedics and he was the “team surgeon” for the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). He also deployed to Afghanistan with a Special Forces group in 2018, where he proudly helped many injured American and Afghan soldiers and civilians. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 2021, and decided to do an extra year of subspecialty training at the nationally acclaimed Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) with several world-renowned arthroscopy surgeons as his mentors.

Since moving to Grand Junction in 2022, Dr. Rawlings has focused his practice on comprehensive shoulder, elbow and knee surgery, as well as general fracture care. He is a team surgeon for all of the sports teams at Colorado Mesa University, Grand Junction, Fruita, Palisade and Central High Schools, and the Grand Junction River Hawks.

Dr. Rawlings and his family fell in love with Grand Junction immediately upon their arrival in 2022. He loves spending time with his wife and four children as often as he can. Whether with family or friends, he also enjoys participating in all kinds of sports and outdoor activities (soccer, volleyball, football, skiing/snowboarding, running, hiking, biking, pickleball, etc.).
