Andrew Yoo, MD
Specialty
Knee Surgery
| Dr. Andrew Yoo was born and raised in Bronxville, NY. After graduating from Bronxville School, he attended Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts where he graduated with honors with a degree in Chemistry. More importantly, he met his future wife there – she is now a math teacher at The Bishop’s School in La Jolla.
Following graduation from Williams College, he worked for two years with the NYU Spine Surgery team on clinical and basic science research. This confirmed his interest in medicine and orthopaedic surgery. He then completed medical school at New York University School of Medicine where he was awarded for his research in musculoskeletal medicine. He attended orthopaedic surgery residency at University of California San Diego where he studied under Dr. Scott Ball in the Adult Reconstruction service. UCSD provided him with a strong education in both total joint replacement as well as orthopaedic trauma surgery. As a chief resident, he was awarded The Chief Resident Teaching Award for his work mentoring junior residents. Dr. Yoo spent one year in Houston, Texas after residency attending the UT Houston Adult Reconstruction Fellowship. He credits his fellowship for a strong training in robotic-assisted knee replacement, anterior and posterior total hip arthroplasty, and revision hip and knee arthroplasty, with a particular emphasis on periprosthetic fracture and infection management around the hip and knee. His research focused on robotic-assisted 3D modulation of total knee implants to decrease soft tissue releases as well as periprosthetic fractures about the hip. He is excited to return to San Diego with his wife and three sons. He will join Drs. Hanson, Hacker, and Dubois at Grossmont Orthopaedic Medical Group in August 2023. He hopes to serve all of San Diego county in terms of musculoskeletal care, with a focus on robotic-assisted total knee replacement, direct anterior total hip replacement, as well as revision hip and knee arthroplasty. |
