Thomas B. Hughes Jr., MD, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, as well as a fellowship in hand, upper-extremity, and microvascular surgery at Brown University in Providence, R.I.

Dr. Hughes is a member of Orthopaedic Specialists-UPMC and is clinical associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He holds various leadership posts with the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Hughes is board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in orthopaedics and hand surgery, and has expertise in carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder and elbow conditions, rotator cuff treatment, shoulder-joint replacement, and all upper-extremity surgery.
