Simon Mellor

Mr Simon Mellor is the Lead for the Hip and Knee Unit at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust and he has worked in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery since 1996. He qualified in 1992 from Manchester University Medical School. In 2003 and 2004 he undertook two Orthopaedic Fellowships in Melbourne Australia specialising in hip and knee surgery.

He has gained experience in computer navigation and patient-specific jigs for knee replacement surgery, and he also has an interest in accelerated rehabilitation after joint replacement surgery. He undertakes all types of soft tissue knee surgery, including patellar stabilisation, meniscal repair, realignment Osteotomy surgery, cruciate ligament reconstruction and multi-ligament reconstruction.

Mr Mellor is one of the UK’s most prominent Anterior Approach Hip Replacement Surgeons, having utilised this muscle-sparing technique for hip replacements since 2012. He has lectured locally and nationally and is a reference centre for training the technique to other surgeons. His work has been featured in the UK press and online media.
