Edward Westerheide, MD
Specialty
Knee Surgery
Dr. Westerheide has been offering custom knee replacements through ConforMIS since 2016. He truly believes that patients recover more fully and quickly by having a custom, made-to-fit joint as opposed to an off-the-shelf joint. He offers custom knee replacements both outpatient and inpatient.
He has a subspecialty interest in the treatment of all types of shoulder problems. He has years of experience performing arthroscopic and open shoulder surgeries, including arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, instability repair, labral or SLAP tear repair, total shoulder replacement, and reverse total shoulder replacement.
Dr. Westerheide also still enjoys all aspects of general orthopedic surgery including fracture care, sports medicine, knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, hand surgery, and knee and hip replacement.
He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Dayton prior to obtaining his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Following medical school, he completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. While in Detroit, he had extensive training in the treatment of traumatic injuries and fractures as well as in the care of athletes. He participated in the care of athletes from numerous high school, college, and professional teams, including the Detroit Red Wings NHL hockey team and the Detroit Lions NFL football team.
Dr. Westerheide works closely with his physician assistant, Gerald Inks, P.A.-C., who he hired and has mentored and supervised since 2008. Gerald, who has his master’s degree, assists Dr. Westerheide in surgery as well as in the office and hospital.
Dr. Westerheide enjoys teaching orthopedics to others and frequently lectures at community education events as well as mentoring high school, college, and graduate school students.
When not working, Dr. Westerheide enjoys spending time with his family as well as traveling, hiking, camping, waterskiing, and studying American history.
