John Wickman, MD MBA

John Wickman, MD, MBA, is an orthopedic surgeon in UT Health Austin’s Shoulder and Elbow Clinic within the Musculoskeletal Institute. He specializes in shoulder and elbow injuries and conditions. Additionally, Dr. Wickman is an assistant professor in the Dell Medical School Department of Surgery and Perioperative Care at The University of Texas at Austin.

Dr. Wickman earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School, where he developed a strong foundation in both surgical techniques and medical research, and his master’s degree from Harvard Business School, which provides him with a unique combination of orthopedic expertise and business acumen to effectively navigate healthcare systems and advocate for improvements in patient care delivery. He completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Duke University Health System and a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Washington University in St. Louis.
Dr. Wickman’s clinical interests include rotator cuff disease, shoulder replacements, complex and revision shoulder replacements, shoulder and elbow fractures, and shoulder stabilization. His research focuses on improving outcomes and increasing value for patients with rotator cuff disease and shoulder arthritis. He has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and scientific abstracts. He emphasizes the importance of patient education, ensuring that individuals understand their conditions and treatment options thoroughly.
